Demolition Operations at Luzhou Depot Site
The site of Luzhou Depot was originally an agricultural area where most of the buildings were simple steel-clad housing. Some of the housing did not meet the requirements for the payment of compensation, leading to vigorous resistance to removal by their owners. Also located in the area were a marble factory, a driver training school, a concrete mixing plant, machinery hardware stores, food processing factories, etc., all scheduled to be demolished. Concerned about the livelihood of the hundreds of affected households and the need to implement this major national project, DORTS conducted active conciliation with the protesters to give them a better understanding of their rights and obligations so as to ease resistance to the minimum. Through constant coordination and negotiation between DORTS’ staff and the landowners, the land was acquired successfully before the deadline, allowing construction to be launched on schedule.
